MJ Hammond
My name is Mark James Hammond and I'm a freelance writer based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
I am currently studying a BA in Humanities and Creative Writing. I have written content for Narc, KYEO, Soundblab, Newcastle Music Chronicles, The Crack and Elite Magazine. I recently had an essay about depression and The Digital Age published by Thought Catalog (the site attracts 25 million monthly unique visitors, and is one of the top 100 most visited websites in the U.S.) and poetry published by Firewords.
I have been writing, creatively since I was a very young boy. Following school I studied an HEFC in English Language before taking up Creative Writing night classes. I then enrolled at University and have studied modules including Reading and Studying Literature and Advanced Creative Writing. In my twenties I maintained the obligatory blog which was my attempt at/homage to the satire of Charlie Brooker and Armando Iannucci.
Not only am I proficient in creative writing, I have a lot of experience writing 'drier', corporate copy. I spent a number of years with a prominent software company, working with its PR department to create compelling content for our numerous followers. I am also experienced in technical authorship having written procedural documents for various departments within the business.
I've enjoyed experimenting with other media, producing my own podcast called The Intelligentleman (which can be found on iTunes) and an accompanying vlog.
I am expected to achieve a first class degree with honours in 2017. I intend to return to a novel I have almost completed once my studies have concluded. In the meantime I shall continue to write about subjects that interest and challenge me for various websites and publications.
Please feel free to have a look around my portfolio where you will find examples of (what I hope you'll agree is) my expressive, personal and engaging style.
If you'd like me to write anything for or with you please do not hesitate to get in touch via [email protected]
