G is for Deep
As a fan of Mike Patton, I first stumbled upon the curioso that is Doseone on Peeping Tom’s eponymous album of 2006. Much like Patton, Doseone, AKA Adam Drucker, is something of a Renaissance man. At the time of writing he performs with some seven or eight million different acts, including cLOUDDEAD, Themselves and Subtle. Just like my main guy Patton started up Ipecac records, Doseone founded his own collective, Anticon, on which ‘G is for Deep’ is released.
This walks the line between R&B and flat-out electronica; a hinterland currently enjoying much success on Sub-Pop at the moment. ‘Dancing X’ gets things kicking with its undulating synth and the neon-party goes the distance. Slightly off-putting are Drucker’s nasally vocals which hinder him somewhat, but overall this is a glittering record that shines with invention.
